Atara is a dragon of anthropomorphic appearance; though rumor has it that she also possesses a full dragon form, details of it are publicly unclear, as is her exact age. Outstanding features are her wings and horns, along with her somewhat thick tail, the woman's form covered with scales. Her past is just as much rumor as fact and she seems to be in no hurry to correct the falsities, amused by some. Sporadic disappearances from the island seem to mark major change in her life, though like the rest of her history, the exact changes aren’t always well known and are only hinted to by changes in her appearance. She has no family, though clearly regards several in a protective and familial manner.

Personality
Generally laid back in nature, Atara is sometimes quick to jump to a conclusion when she sees something as a threat to those she cares for, her temper short when frustration settles upon her. Mostly quietly observant, Atara may seem shy, but is generally bemused with the world in general, and simply takes her time in deciding how to react to most things and situations.
Occasionally jaded in regards to the behavior of sentient beings in general, she takes a somewhat stereotypically 'western dragon' view of people, a little above those who haven't lived longer than one hundred years, something potentially considered a 'high and mighty' stance. She's very open minded however, and gives ample chances for new people to change her first impression of them.
Biography
Before Yuriba
Not much is known of Atara's life before she came to Yuriba, though it is known that she's from an earth where dragons were once fairly common before they retreated with the decline of magic on the world. An arctic dragon, it's known that she used to live in the Arctic Circle, and apparently contributed to many of the more negative stories of dragons from the western world. One of the last to migrate, something occurred with a young woman, though what this was is a fairly closely guarded secret by the dragon.
General History
A very long time resident of the island, Atara briefly occupied a cave in an area she named White Cathedral Cove, located south of the island’s lighthouse. She was also the proprietor of the local coffee and tea shop, The Dragon’s Brew, and the caretaker of Yuriba Park. Sometime in 2005 she disappeared with little to no reason given, with a short reappearance in 2006. A strange change had come over the dragoness; she no longer seemed to be exactly who she used to be, and was scarcely seen about the island anymore. The cause, and extent of the change is currently unknown. At this point she had begun to go by the name Ara. Disappearing again from the island, it was believed that she had gone for good, abandoning her home and family.
The Return
With the arrival of a young woman named Ella to the island, information was given to Merin and Breisleach that the dragoness was in essence lost, and unable to find her way back to the island. After a period of time of searching by Merin, aided by Ella, who seemed to be something of a 'key', Atara was found and brought back to the island.Atara does not speak of the events which transpired while she was off the island, save to those who she trusts and cares for the most. No longer an island Guardian in the official sense, Atara is content to be a companion and guardian to those who she cares for the most, having stated that the only way she's going to leave again is if a Goddess tells her so, and it seems as if she'd be willing to even stand her ground against that, as well.
Relationships
Once mated to Kashiri, Atara was apparently quite disturbed by Kashiri's departure from the island, and has taken on a more cynical view of love and it's place in her life, briefly leaving the island proper and spending the majority of her time in the seas around the island. She cares for several on the island as if they were kin, including but not limited to the kitsune breisleach and the fae Merin, and has recently grown to be quite fond of Ella and Jenn as well. A friendship seems to be budding with Abryn and Morrigana. Her relationship with breisleach seems to have grown deeper than ever before, she even moving into the Woodland Retreat with the woman, her protectiveness over the kitsune very clear to any who interact with her.
